Does a single member LLC require Employer identification number if there are no employees?

Yes, you will require EIN# for single member LLC. It's a unique identifier for your company similar to SSN # for individuals.

IRS has made it very easy to apply for an EIN number online. You cannot cancel the EIN once you have applied & have been approved. Therefore, you need to ensure the application form is complete with all the correct details. Many CPA firms can assist you with this process, so contact a tax professional or CPA for further guidance.

Note for non-residents/ individuals without SSN # - Social security number is required to apply for employer identification number. However, if you are not living in united states or if you do not have a social security number then you will need to contact a CPA or tax professional. There is a separate process to obtain EIN without SSN #.
